The Lost City of Atlantis (1)

Have you ever heard of Atlantis? Many people believe that 10,000 years ago, there used to be an island paradise in the Atlantic Ocean called Atlantis. There was a popular TV series legend of the lost continent. This series featured a man who could swim like a fish and had webbed hands and feet! It stirred the interest of many viewers and got them wondering whether there is, or there was once a colony of undersea dwellers. However, researchers have yet to find convincing evidence that such a place really existed.

According to Plato, a Greek philosopher who lives more than two thousand years ago, Atlantis was a magnificient city where everyone was rich and lived to their hearts' content. The city was surrounded by a beautiful multi-coloured wall and at its centre lay an impressive place.

However, the people of the city, the Atlanteans gradually became dissatisfied with what they already had. As they grew more greedy, they made plans to raid other great centres of civilization, such as Greece and Egypt, so that they could plunder their riches. With a powerful army and navy, they were confident of success.

Unfortunately, before they could strike, Atlantis suffered a terrible earthquake. The city was destroyed and the once-beautiful island sank to the bottom of the ocean, never to be seen again.

Plato said that the history of Atlantis had originally been written in strange hieroglyphics (markings in stone), but for thousands of years, nobody coud make sense of what the markings meant.

Egyptian priests finally succeeded in decoding the message within the hieroglyphics, and eventually, the story was passed on to Plato himself.

If the story of Atlantis is true, then somewhere on the Atlantic floor lies a treasure beyond our wildest dreams! This possibility attracted the interest of many treasure-seekers as well as researchers.

In the 1970s, a group of scientists and researchers of the supernatural, led by a Dr Maxine Asher sailed to Sapin to investigate the myth. Dr Asher claimed that she had received an ESP (extra-sensory perception) message from the long-perished citizens of Atlantis!

This message told her exactly where to find the remains of the city. When they had reached a spot about 21 kilometres off the Spanish coast, divers carried out a search at the bottom of the ocean.
